Eighties tribute with Guess Originals

27th October 2017

For some members of the Daily Dose of Denim team, Guess has been a big part of our denim history. You might remember a shoot we did with the first throwback collection Guess did in 2016 (if you don’t remember, here it is!). For this season’s collection, the brand decided to highlight the technique they introduced in the early eighties.

Back in the days in sunny LA, the Marciano brothers came up with a way to make new jeans look used. They asked laundries to use the innovative stonewash technique, using pumice stones to remove the dye particles from the surface of the yarn. This groundbreaking approach to the wash process helped put the brand on the denim map.

The items of the third Guess Originals collection were inspired by the Guess designs fromthe eighties and nineties. They were given a contemporary twist but are still very recognizable. The sub label will continue to serve as a design initiative and collaborate with influential creatives like A$AP Rocky.
